John Manton

John Manton has conducted fieldwork in Nigeria and Cameroon. His doctoral work in history at Oxford investigated leprosy control in southeastern Nigeria, in its public health, medical research and missionary manifestations, an investigation which was broadened in postdoctoral work funded by the Wellcome Trust. Subsequent investigations into the relations between agronomy, plant breeding and nutrition in Nigeria, and recollections and remnants of medical research in Cameroon reflect an overarching concern in his work with the interactions between medical research, clinical practice, and welfare and development in Africa from historical and anthropological perspectives.
